Martin D16H model full size dreadnought acoustic electric guitar. The serial number (5045XX) shows it was made in early 1991 at the Martin plant in Nazareth PA USA, so the guitar is now 20 years old. MARTIN D-16H 91 (1991) VGC+, D-size, 15-1/2" lower bout, 3-7/8" to 4-7/8" body depth, natural satin finish, spruce top, mahogany back and sides, 14 fret mahogany neck, 20 fret rosewood fingerboard with diamond pearl type inlays, rosewood bridge, tortoise shell type body binding and pickguard, herringbone soundhole rosette and backstrip, chrome tuners, dovetail neck joint, scalloped bracing, forward X-brace, rosewood peghead overlay, 1-11/16" nut width, 25.4" scale, Fishman pick up pickup installed, replacement bridge pins. Martin did not make a lot of the D-16H guitars and they were discontinued. They're highly sought after by bluegrass players as well as studio musicians and performers, so they rarely come up for sale. In fact, as you can see in the details above, this (discontinued) vintage D16H has several features, which make it comparable to the current D18V model. And the D-18V has an MSRP of $3349.00 so this D16H is a bargain. The guitar looks plays and sounds fantastic. It has a ton of volume and great tone, similar to a vintage D18 D28 D35 or D45 etc. A strap pin was added on the bottom side of the neck so you don't have to use one of those "Cowboy Straps". The pearloid type tuners are stamped CF Martin, but I believe they're also an upgrade deluxe version. A Fishman clip on pickup was also added, as well as a lower strap pin 1/4" jack, so you can easily plug this guitar in and play it through your amp or PA etc. As you can see in the pictures, the fretboard has some beautiful diamond pearl type inlays, and the back of the guitar, as well as the soundhole rosette, have a herringbone trim. The top and back have a tortoise shell type edge binding plus the guitar has a tortoise shell type pickguard. These are features, that are found on some of the much more expensive Martin guitars. Like any 20 year old vintage guitar, this one is not perfect. There are some scratches in the top (probably from a watch band) just above the sound hole, and where your right wrist would be. The back has some scratches on it, from a belt buckle. The frets have some normal wear but they're in very good condition and the guitar plays fine. The top has a slight bow in it, just behind the bridge. Otherwise, the guitar is in very good to excellent condition, The factory Martin tuners are in excellent condition and they work great. The clip on, Fishman pick up, can easily and quickly be removed. It works fine and it also has an adjustable volume knob. And once again, it sounds great, whether it's plugged into an amp, or ran straight through the PA. A used hard shell case is included. The case has gaff tape around the outside edges, but the inside is very clean. All of the hardware, including the hasps hinges and handle work fine, and the case will certainly protect the guitar. You can save a lot of money here, as the MSRP on a similar, brand new D18V $3349.00.
